I keep my garbage on deck in a large

thick plastic leaf bag. I have a blue Sunbrella bag that the leaf bag goes into so it just looks like more boat equipment. It actually lives in the cockpit locker until it grows to a size that exceeds the locker. I separate it out into smaller bags but it all goes into the blue bag until I get somewhere I can dump it. The problem is that in third world places, like Dan says, is that if you pay some kid to deal with it ends up in some gully out back and not in a land fill and certainly not in a re-cycle location. Most of the trash bins end up in the same place so it's almost, "what's the point"? I'm not so sure that I disagree with Dan at all. I have managed to get to Marina dumpsters during the last 5 years in Mexico but I didn't travel further then the Gold Coast and Baja. You never knew where the trash was going to end up in Baja even if you dumped in town. Is environmental awareness getting better in third world countries? Maybe a bit but not much. I did see an actual dump in Costa Rica last week. It wasn't a land fill but just a large field where they were dumping the trash into a huge pile. Of course the Papagayo winds were blowing the stuff all over the place but at least it's a step in the right direction. But then Costa Rica is one of the most advanced third world countries so you can guess what the rest of them are doing.
