Try 4 days a week for 20 years while living aboard. When we were cruising that number went up to everyday (almost). The meat got cooked on the BQ but bread got toasted as well. The vegies were cooked outside also. Let's see, heat up the cabin with the stove when it's already 85 degrees a couple of hours before you go to bed for the night or use the BQ? That's not a hard decision for us. But you're right, polishing them definitely extends the life.
