BBQ Grills
In Response To: Another bbq question? ()

Boat grill is a cheapo from Benny's - when it rusts, throw it away and get another.
Home grill is the medium rectangular grill from Magma. I like it. Originally ran it with the high pressure hose and the Magma regulator. The Magma regulators are Mexican 'Precimex' and don't like the fuel from the big bottles (according to Magme). Am now using a hardware store regulator (also Precimex but 1/3 the price), low pressure hose, and the smaller Magma control valve. Gives me all the heat I want, as I'm primarily cooking stuff like chicken that wants more time at lower heat (we're not big steak eaters). Even on our deck with the wind coming from every direction, keeping it lit hasn't been an issue.
The Magma regulators will drive you nuts! They're all identical! All Magma does is change the orifice size and put a different color dot on the control knob. But try to buy just a smaller orifice??
The Magma grills do require periodic maintenance. Scrape out the mung every 6 months or so. I've also had to replace the spark lighter, the flame spreader, and twice the burner. But the double wall construction keeps them looking good. We have a local Cardinal that sits on the cart and pecks at himself in his reflection in the side panel. I've since made a sunbrella cover for it which also keeps the drip pan dry.
