.... used at home. It is funny but I always dismissed the grills when I saw them on the shelves at West Marine. I assumed that they were just gimmicky cheap grills. I did not even begin this recent search for a grill with any thought of doing more than give them a passing glance. In the end I changed my mind after reading a lot of positive comments and speaking to the people at Magma. I read a lot of negatives too but most were along the line of " the igniter failed so it is junk...".
One thing I learned was that although the grill is made of 304 stainless, you have to be careful of overheating the unit as this burns away the metals that make it stainless. Magma says that the biggest problem is closing the lid and walking away. The burners are too hot for this and you will do damage. I measured over 800 degrees at the grate in about five minutes of pre heating on high so I believe them! The Parker was hard pressed to get to 600 and it took longer to do it.
Maybe the screens do work as infrared? Anyway we roasted peppers very easily, burgers are good and asparagus and broccoli cook up perfectly and it is easy to use. I am sure I will discover its weaknesses but I am happy so far...
