the weather is just so damn nice.

Just returned from Oahu... where daily the temps were in the mid 80s and the humidity was somewhere near that too... wearing my usual So Cal shorts and aloha shirts, I was drenched in sweat in no time. I did notice folks there tend to walk at a much slower pace than I do... no doubt had something to do with my "heat problem."

About 8 years ago, the Admiral and I took a trip around Southern Utah and through vast areas of Arizona in the first weeks of July... we were looking at the various big lakes in the area with an eye toward future retirement. At one point during the 102 degree midday heat, the admiral happened to ask a local if it is always that hot... the reply: "oh no, this is a cool day, it often gets to 112." The admiral was stunned. "But it's a dry heat." "Right."

When we would have discussions with locals, regarding the attributes of their area... the conversation would often come around to "where ya from...?" We'd say "San Diego." The response was always a dreamy gaze and something along the lines of "oh it's so nice there..." Made us start wondering if our search for a retirement spot was perhaps a bit ill fated.
