It is so easy to get to the boat, that it encourages me to get to the boat often. And while I have no fancy amenities as you mentioned (well, access to the seaworld/mission bay bike path is darn good), I believe I also pay the lowest slip rates in town. We used to have a nice little deli close by, near the boat yard... in the summer on the weekends, there was always a live band... that was nice. But the deli owner passed away last year and the place has gone into lease limbo... apparently the building owners don't want to do repairs, but are trying to charge high lease rates... "the beach, you know..."
There is one more little side benefit to my current location... there is a Coronado Brewing Company tasting room right on the way home... Or on the way to the boat, depending on which way I plan on taking a growler.
About a month ago my son gave me a interesting idea. During the early spring, while working on the boat, I had been putting a couple of beers in a bucket in the water on the shady side of the boat... and after a couple of hours, I would enjoy that ale. Not at the coldest temp, but certain ales work well even at about 55 degrees. (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, for instance) Well, the water temps have gone up... we are now easily in the 68 degree zone... and I was lamenting having to bring ice to accomplish the same task. My son suggested just putting a weight in the bucket and sinking it to the bottom... some 22 feet below the boat... got to thinking about the thermocline... that may be a workable solution.
