To further explain- the event we are discussing is called "The Texas 200". A five day

sail from Port Mansfield Texas, just north of the Mexican border, up inside the barrier Islands, to Magnolia Beach on Matagorda Bay.. The coast along there is very primitive, with the course running between the King Ranch on the west, and Padre Island Natl Seashore on the east. We cross 6 pretty fair size bays along the way- Laguna Madre, Corpus Bay, Aransas Bay, San Antonio Bay, Espritu Santos Bay, and Matagorda Bay. Except for when it goes past Port Aransas, there are virtually no civilization stops, and all boats are pretty much completely on their own, unless another participant happens to be close by. Waivers must be signed by all skippers and crews before the start. And they do state- you could die out there.

This is a picture of the boat I've sailed in four of these events. An 18 foot plywood Cat schooner trimaran. That's ashore at the third nights camp spot, called Pauls Mott. The rest of the camps are roughly like that.
