In Amsterdam I noticed the "bike and scooter only" lanes and thought they looked a good idea.

() No pedestrians in those lanes that I saw. It seemed far superior to mixing in the regular traffic and of course so many bikes and scooters! Pic is bike parking off the ferry by the train station.
What I could not figure out is why so many bikes were there apparently all the time, like they'd just been left and forgotten. Quien sabe?
