Most full battened mains have batten tensioners....
In Response To: Batten tension? ()

Tom's boat may not have a sail track that supports batten end cars. Battcars have tensioners built in: machine screws or bolts that push against the forward end of the batten and can be adjusted to increase or decrease batten tension. On my mainsail, there are double velcro closures over the aft end (a velcro'ed strap comes over one side, then another overlaps that going the other way). These proved to be insufficient, the batten tension would shear the 2" wide velcro and the batten would pop out, so we had to add lacings.

One of the very neat things about a full battened main is that it holds its shape even in no wind. That makes you considerably faster in 0-3 knots when others sails are hanging limp.
