"You have to already be there"

That's very eloquent, Tom. I can relate to that and I'm sure that phrase will become part of my lexicon.

The first time Jan and I went on a cruising vacation we had a schedule and reservations, based on an average estimated cruising speed. It created a lot of pressure -- and midway through the first week we realized "the vacation is where we are", and we started to make our decisions about destinations (or whether we moved on at all) day-by-day. It became about the journey, not the destination. Generalizing of course... but maybe that's the biggest difference between sailors who sail, and other people under engine power (including motoring sailboats).
