I felt that locked shape was the key to getting going in less air than before.

With the old main, nothing would make it hold a shape long enough for wind to attach, in the same amount of wind(2-3 knots?). When we raced our older boats, a few on the rail usually supplied enough heel to get some shape into the main.

No doing that with this boat with just 2.

I know the full batten main isn't faster than others, but in this circumstance, a set and shaped main, meant sailing. I went with full battens for easier handling, so this was great news to me!
