Larry, after being a sailor for 30 years....

I agree with you....those days when all is well and the sailing is just right...it's perfect. However, out of an entire summer of sailing how many great sailing days do you really get? I found over the years it's very few. It's either blowing like snot, no wind, or coming from the wrong direction. I don't have unlimited time on the boat(not many of us do). Now we see far more with our current boat with limited time than we ever did with the sailboat.....we moved to the "Dark Side" several years back. I miss the sail, but I don't miss the sailboat. As we get older, it's easier to make the transition. Hoisting sail, furling sail, cranking winches, dancing around the decks is not for me at this stage of my life. Had a great time back then doing it all....I'm not a kid anymore, so, sadly for me it was time to move on.
