Having done this, it seems like the simplest way to upgrade my DC panel, is to build my own.

I have a cabinet that houses the DC panel that no stock panel is going to fit, well. It has an nice solid door that I'd like to keep, that covers the switches and fuses. One of those big panels with blinking LEDs would look odd in my old boat.

I'd be inclined to just use fuse holders. Any circuit, on the boat or at home, that regularly trips the breaker or blows a fuse, has got a problem that isn't a dead short (the reason you have the fuse in the first place). And you can buy breakers to fit your own panel as well, if you prefer.

I haven't replaced a fuse in years on the boat, and I haven't tripped a breaker in my house since I moved some of my tools to another circuit in the garage.
