I enjoy being on it 99% of the time - but NOT 100%.
Respect it? Yes. Love it? No.
But, I DO love being on the water on board small boats - just me and the boat and the wind and
the sea (a solitary experience).
I was always attracted, like a magnet, to the sea. I grew up a short distance from it and most
nights would fall asleep with the foghorn going off in the distance. It was always part of my
consciousness.
As a very small kid, I was attracted to small powerboats. But, then I read about sailing in a book
named _The Yachtsman's Omnibus_ by H.A. Calahan and was inspired to learn how to sail (at
age 13) and the rest is, as they say, history.
The answer to your question, I think, is that sailing is an bsession*. You can't understand its appeal
through logic alone anymore than you can understand love through logic alone.
