My first boat, when I was 7 or 8 years old, was an 8' plywood rowing pram

The engineers at the dairy plant where my dad worked built it for me. I spent hours rowing along the Wolf Neck shore of the Harraseeket River trolling for stripers and mackerel. Seems like we always had an outboard powered flat bottomed skiff or a plywood runabout around. My wife and I didn't get into sailing until a few years after we were married. Our first sailboat was a Lowell 19, a tired, leaky old centerboard lapstrake semi-dory. We spent most summer weekends sailing around Casco Bay and camping on the islands which eventually lead to a series of larger sailboats and coastal cruising further afield.
