We'd taken my ma down to visit her friends who lived on the lake. Their son was there from San Fran. with an 8' sail dink. His 8 yr old son was sailing it, saw us on the raft, wanted to trade. When the wind first hit that sail and we moved we were both converts at that precise moment. Went on to own many small boats including a Columbia 21, one of my faves for the river.
I went on to a life of boat ownership, boat work, repair, building....almost entirely as a hobbybut not always. She went on to teaching and also a hundred ton inland license and lives on, literally, Puget Sound near Vashon Island.
Hmmmmmmm..I think she might have made more of herself than did I. She's married to the skipper of a 96' fantail yacht, does boating, no boat work.
