The block ice quality around here is awful -- full of air!

I think it's intentional that the ice is white with trapped air, not clear. We use block ice, but the density isn't what it should be. I think there's room for a competitor to come out with a denser block and take over the market in the southern New England region.

This little Indel unit doesn't hold enough food for longer than a long weekend, but we have a big built-in ice box under a cockpit seat. That's where we keep most of our cold stuff, and we keep the stuff we want quick/convenient access to in the fridge. We start with 4 blocks in the ice box and still have ice after 3 days (with this local aerated stuff) but we try to add a block or two and drain some melt-water every other day.
