A terrific product. I think it is my single favorite piece of gear on board - maybe tied with our Standard Horizon fixed mount vhf/ais - and we just underwent a total refit of all electronics and most electrics.

When I am out fishing in the dinghy and Michele wants to know where I am, she just hits a button on our fixed mount and my position shows up on our chartplotter! I use the radio as a handheld GPS when out in the dinghy - saving waypoints of good fishing spots, navigating in the dark or through reefs - and when I find a spot I really want to keep, I just push a button on the HH and the waypoint is saved on the chartplotter. I envision this last feature being useful in the future for exploring uncharted areas with the big boat - navigate them first with the dinghy and depthsounder and send waypoints to the chartplotter.

And the charging base has NMEA0183 built in. I installed a db9 connector on it so the radio's GPS can be used as a backup GPS for our computers and shipboard navigation systems should the main GPS give us trouble.

Sorry for the thread drift, but Larry's post reminded me how much I like that piece of gear.
