We listened to the Coast Guard side of the mayday call yesterday as this was happening. What was striking was the fact that we could not hear The actual mayday but just the response. I later figured out that once the rig came down the VHF had to be a hand held unit thus we could do nothing to receive the signal from 16 miles away. Amazing!
We are uncertain wich rock they actually hit. We are guessing it was the submerged rock to the east of East Goose rock?
Having hit rocks before and having spent time in the Wayfarer slings of shame we are reminded to be very careful!!!!!
