It's safest to by-pass the whole area, but those islands are routinely sailed by many boats.

There's such a good flow of pleasure boats between Camden and Pulpit that passages are high and I think that's the boring crux of what happened.

A professional captain hit Curtis Island a few years ago, and he was local. Another delivery skip hit the Graves, and he lived in town. If you did the numbers of boats that cross that water, it's very high so accidents routinely happen. The big difference today is, you're instant news.

13 years ago when I hit that rock, only the locals on VHF knew it. 2 local papers ran an inch of type the next week in some obscure section of the paper. Both those papers are gone now.
