Specualtion time? I'm in. Archangel, and hour out of Camden, with Captain, cook and 6 passengers,...

The captain and the cook are conferring as the cook stows provisions, is putting together the houre duerves and working on dinner. The captain is entertaining the 6 guests, there's a lot to do on Archangel at that point, including piloting the boat which is under sail on a close reach. Pulpit ahead, anchor, cocktails, dinghy, aspirin,...

He would have two 10" chartplotters zoomed out to cover Rockland to Stonington at that point? I doubt it, he just left Camden Harbor maybe 30-40 minutes ago which has two channels and several hazards( all of which have been hit in the last 10 years that I recall).

My speculation would be more likely the captain was,...distracted, or otherwise simply careless in knowing his position, for a few moments(all it takes).

And like every boat that has hit that rock in the last hundred years, that infamous rock, was clearly marked on a chart nearby the helm.

In this case, I'll wager two screens showed the Archangel ON the rock,...AT the moment,... OF,... impact.
