There are several "Stone Barringtons" and "Rock Stones" too if you read the Stewart Woods crap

This rock has sunk some boats, including mine.
Ouch... I'm guessing there will be a serious reduction in her $2.4 million asking price....
It's marked and the crowd sourced data accurate
I believe you are looking in the wrong spot....
Hmmm. Here's another screen shot
That's the right area

Here is a picture of the latest....
The question is
Some interesting discrepancies between this Garmin view, and yours of the paper chart...
Or you can take an alternate route across
Lousy iPad camera shot....
It's possible, but I'm betting it's the rock to Northeast of East Goose Rocks, Bruce.
I don't think the rock has moved, digitally or otherwise, Jon.
Here's the spot. It's a wide open heavily traveled path.
While the boat appears to be built like a tank, the spar is questionable.
Yup, I'd say so... Interesting that it was an in-mast furling rig...
Like the man says.....
Certainly appears in-mast furling may have created the weak spot in that rig...
Here's Ben's shot indicating the point of failure...
Consequences!
Definitely one of the advantages to a system like Leisure-Furl...
Backstay failed in the crash?
I wouldn't think so, I'm still a bit surprised the rig came down...
Good info
This thread is ongoing @ Sailnet and some mentioned your hazzard post.
Why no day danger mark?
Maybe they should leave a wreck there
There are just too many hazzards like that on the coast of Maine.
That's the essence of cruising in Maine
Any good cruiser should be able to spot shoals...
Not so easy when the water is turbid
Granted... and a lot depends on keel length...
There's a slightly wider route just to the south of there
Exactly - A much safer route through to the South, but...
I guess I'm a super-paranoid navigator
As I like to observe: It is better have rocks in you glass rather than your fiberglass
It's safest to by-pass the whole area, but those islands are routinely sailed by many boats.
Curtis island? Seriously? The one with the big LIGHTHOUSE on it?
Yes, ran a classic wooden commuter yacht up on the rocks around Curtis Island.
Scuttlebutt is over, lips are sealed,... CG has started an investigation.
The images in that article
That zooming out issue is a real problem IMO
Now THAT sounds like a trip I want to hear about, get your ass in gear, Max (grin)
Can't wait for pics, Max. I think the zoom in wouldn't apply here.
Is that screen on your iPad?
Your're good, Larry.
Specualtion time? I'm in. Archangel, and hour out of Camden, with Captain, cook and 6 passengers,...
I'd guess you're right on the money, Tom...
Coming into our marina this evening..
This thread reminds me of one of Don Street's yarns . . .
That's the way navigation used to be
I just read a couple of books written over 100 years ago
As the generations go by, our old salts today are pretty lame.
