I'm curious what everyone uses in their diesel fuel for winter layup (if you have to do such a thing). We used the Stabil brand for a few years then it vanished off the shelves. An old diesel mechanic told me to use SeaFoam, which we did for a few years. Last year I bought a Starbrite additive and used it, dunno if it was just coincidence but the Yanmar was hard to start in the Spring and ended up with a bad fuel pump diaphram. The mechanic asked if I had added anything for moisture in the fuel and/or a biocide? I see that West Marine has their own brand of additive, I still have that Starbrite product and of course, Seafoam is available at any auto parts store. BTW, Seafoam says on the label that it also removes water from the fuel while acting as a winter stablizing additive. Oh, I also add a Cetane booster and top up the fuel tank every year.
I'm sorry to say that our only source of marine diesel with Valvtec additives closed for good 2 weeks ago. We will all be forced to use whatever we can get at the local filling stations now, that would be either regular road diesel or offroad diesel (the red stuff).
