Hi Tom, our fuel gauge is flukey.
While the boat was still on the hard I flipped on the batteries and ignition to check the fuel level, it read E - empty. Not suprising as the previous owners used the boat very little for the last 5-6 years. I got my trusty 5 gallon can, filled it with offroad diesel, set it up in the fuel filler and tripped the safety valve to pour. In about 30 seconds it poured all right, right out of the vent onto the parking lot. The tank was full, not empty. On our first outing I looked down when we were motoring out and now the tank read full. Each of the next two times out the tank read empty. Once we are hauled for the fall I'm going to start at the gauge and see if we have loose connections, then to the tank, then finally I guess I'll be replacing the sending unit.
I have had so many things to do and with the weather not cooperating, my wife would rather sail than sit while I work through issues. Oh, and I forgot that I also got a really nice spider bite from a brown recluse down at the boat 3 weeks ago. I've been a little edgy about reaching into strange places around the dock and the boat. The bite is doing OK with the giant horse pills the doc has me taking but I think one bite is enough for anyone.
