On two of the buildings we have a two 500 KW (life safety systems) generators and one 1000 KW "back-up power" generators. There are three tanks for the two buildings - two - 1,000 gallon and one 2,000 gallon tank.
The normal running for testing only uses between 20 and 35 gallons per month. We do "load testing" which essentially has a very large resistance device (which gets, very hot) to simulate a load).
Annually we have each tank opened, inspected, and serviced by an outside firm.
What I undertood from my preivous discussion with our staff led me to believe there was nothing other than treatment. During inspections the service recycles fuel from the bottom of each tank and removes questionable fuel and sediment. Last year they removed (although not all of the fuel was really questionable, about 120 gallons total from the 3,000 gallons we store. Biocide is then added at least once a year.
