Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Late season, another cruiser left Rockport this weekend, headed south.

The Ogdens out of Camden are headed south for the winter. They're an experienced cruising couple and have done this before. They're boat SHRYINX is a metal hull that has very nice traditional lines. A new addition is their Portland Pudgy. I saw it strapped on their foredeck yesterday as they headed dead south out of Rockport.

Gretchen favorably reviewed the Portland Pudgy in Maine Boats Harbors and Homes(she was editor), several years ago. She must have meant what she said as they bought one a year or two ago and have been using it for a tender(replaced an 8' Puffin hard dinghy). Now it will serve as their tender as well as liferaft during a winter cruise.

That makes sense to me, and I could see the small size fit easily on their 34 or so foot boat, and they will be offshore often. Plus it's easy on the topsides. It should ride on the foredeck most of the time because if this photo demonstrates it's drag, it's quite a bit.
