Yeah, it's amazing how often one sees that sort of stowage... Looks like those boats in your pic are motoring into a headwind, no? Can you imagine the extra windage they've created? Seems towing the damn things would be creating far less drag in that situation, no? I also hate coming up on such boats in a faster boat, they NEVER see you coming... (grin)
One thing I will say about the advantages of multihulls for cruising, you guys generally have FAR AND AWAY the most practical and usable solution to carrying a tender...
