That's funny because I hardly ever

haul the sail up with the Lazy Jacks deployed. I have what my sail maker calls a "Lazy Cradle" which is another of the variations of the stack pack. The sail cover is integrated into the Lazy Jacks. Once you deploy the sail, the cover can either be left hanging by the Jacks or rolled up to live against the boom with the Lazy Jacks pulled up against the mast. The part of the Lazy Jacks that are running along the boom just get rolled up into the sail cover. The system works great. The downside is that if you haul up the sail then you have to roll up and stow the cover and jacks usually while at sea or at least while under way (unless you plan on leaving them up while underway). When I sail, very often, it's alone. Leaving the cockpit at sea or while passing down some narrow channel while on auto pilot is something I like to avoid if I can. Usually, not always but usually, I tie my sail ties around the sail just after unzipping the zipper on top of the cover. I then drop the Lazy Jacks which allows the sail cover to hang along the boom and the lazy Jacks to fall forward. I hook them around the cleat, haul them tight and then roll the cover up on it fiberglass rod that runs the length of the cover at the top and secure it to the boom with it's plastic snap buckles. It only takes a few moments to get the sail up and I don't have to deal with the cover and jacks while under way. My boat is a pilot house so the sail is high up off the deck and if it falls off the boom when the ties are removed it only falls to the pilot house deck where their is nothing for it to snag on. The fiberglass rod that is in a pocket along the top of the cover is what makes the system work so well. The Lazy Jacks are fixed around the rods and not connected to the boom. The sail cover is what is attached to the boom so the Lazy Jack lines don't even come into play until from the top of the cover. I could just as easy haul the sail up and then deal with the cover but it's something I find easier to do at the dock or at anchor prior to getting underway.
