When I was in Annapolis putting the boat back together after being on the hard for the winter I fractured my back (the second time). Wasn't doing anything really difficult, just pulling the newly stiched bimini back so I could put a pin in the stainless bow. POP! it went and I fell to the floor of the cockpit where I layed for a half hour till I could get some alcohol. When I made it home I was in bed for months. When I found out I had osteoperosis big time I knew it was over for me. The thought of falling down and breaking a hip hundreds of miles away from help isn't something I wanted to have happen.
That's when I gave the boat away (not really, just sold it for much less than it was worth).
People ask me if I miss it and I always say "not really". We had a lot of good years with great photos and memories but sometimes it's just over and you move on.
As Art Linketter said, "Growing old isn't for sissys".
We're looking at a Jeep and teardrop camping trailer for some land traveling.
