when we lived there in '81 and '82. "This place doesn't have weather, just climate". She couldn't believe that she had to wear a flannel shirt on the boat in July! I went to high school in LA after my dad was transeferred from the Cape to SOCAL. The waves were better but the ocean nearly always cold, spring delayed by the marine layer bringing several weeks of dreary damp and dankness when even the Jersey Shore would be nice. Then, after a day or two of sunshine the sky became the color of Ronald Reagan's hair and breathing deep meant a stab in the chest. I prefer tropical humidity, cold fronts, thunderstorms and dazzlingly clean air that's blown across three or four thousand miles of ocean to California anytime. Like snowy locales, it's a nice place to visit, sail (bring your 200% genoa) and eat, especially the seafood ... but then go home!
