If you do, forget it's 'your' house (link)

No renter will take care of it the way you do and, on the other hand, you won't remember all the dings and honey-do items left undone when you depart.

When you come back, it will really just be a property in need of a lot of cleaning and decorating.

While I haven't left a house while cruising, I have owned rental properties and have rented my primary residence while overseas for extended periods. I have seen a lot of friends in similar situations.

Some have a really hard time when they return to a house which they view as 'destroyed' and a lot of emotion can get pulled into the return of deposits, etc.
