Boat is fine in Tidewater area..but Nor'Ida as we are calling it
In Response To: By Thomas Point Light.... ()

well was the 2nd highest high tide in recent (read since hurricane of 38) history...

Isabelle was the worst, this was .5 ft less, but had less wave driven overwash as isabelle was more from the east and channelling into the hampton Roads area, this was more north and nne, even then..consider.. Hampton Roads bridge tunnel was open (norfolk to Pennisula), Monitor/merrimack was closed (high water and winds) for a time on thursday, James River ferry (Williamsburg to south of the james river) was closed Thurs at 0300 to friday 0500 due to high water and winds, James River Bridge (newport news to smithfield va - where we live) closed wed 1800 to this morning, due to high water..

The boat is nice and protected on a floating dock in the Hampton River (the start of the 1500), but I work in Surry county at a power plant, my boss lives 2 mins from the ferry in w'burg and then has a 15 min drive to the station, well his commute was 1.5 hours Wed night, thurs, friday each freakin way due to the ferry and bridge closures..

You saw the barge at VA beach, well we had one here that broke loose on the river and was getting close to clogging up our cooling water inlet..sorta a bad thing at a power plant..plus we are in the middle of an outage for the #2 plant

I was monitoring the weather, but about 8 hours before it got here the weathermen started saying it was going to be as bad as Isabelle..then looking at the radar you could see the rain bands forming plus the baro dropped to 998mb..and it has happened before that a storm reforms as a hurricane as it goes offshore here into the gulf stream..luckily it started picking up speed..The USCG closed the port on Thurs to all commercial traffic..

The power company is working to restore power, and unfortunately there are going to be some people still out over the weekend..I will say that I AM impressed with the efforts to cut back the vegatation and trees from the lines to keep them from going out due to a "cheap kill" as we used to say in the military..

Going to go race on Sunday - but I will not clean the boat this week, I want the water to flush out some more...the sanitation systems are overflowing, and my given indian name is "swims with jellyfish" not "floats with brown trout" Grin.. Bruce T. Shark
