Well, I just don't like the idea of Bermuda this time of year, so I'll cite Don Street as my excuse... (grin)

Take a look at STREET'S TRANSATLANTIC CROSSING GUIDE, where he lays out what seems to be the most sensible advice for making the passage to the Virgins from the East coast...

There is a region to the west of Bermuda where the likelihood of a late-season sub-tropical storms or gales forming is the greatest. The rhumb line route from NY-St. Thomas, or Beaufort-Bermuda, takes you right through the center of this area, whereas the direct route from Beaufort to the islands skirts the extreme western edge of this area... In Street's words, once you get into Nov, Dec, and January, "Bermuda attracts gales like a magnet...From my own experience, I consider the Bermuda route a risky proposition in November, and I'm reluctant to recommend it..."
