Interestingly, tho, the National Hurricane Center was making reference all along to the effect of the high north of the path of Ida, and if you looked at the sundry models, you could see a real solid patch of easterlies to gale force right across the path from Hatteras to Bermuda and beyond. And speaking of models, some didn't have a low center on the map of the Gulf of Mexico even when Ida had been a tropical storm for days. Go figure.
