I don't mind motoring and we can usually use a few amps in the early morning.

If we need to get somewhere, getting some miles under the keel while people sleep shortens the day.

I you stil have you Choey Lee 35
"the vacation is where you are"
All valid points! We are planning
You should be able to make 6+ knots in a 35
Work like hell at first....
One trick I've often used is to sneak some miles in before anyone is awake.
Sailing
I've enjoyed that too Peter, but this is a we question.
I know all about the we years Tom
No wonder you're enjoying your 12 hour sails.
You have called that correctly Tom!
Yeah the only problem with those morning miles

Agreed. When aboard my wife and I get up with the sun anyway
I'd rather listen to the engine
You east coasters got it mighty damn good!
Depends which west coast you mean, Westcoaster
Yabbut...it's nearly thirty hours to get to Neah Bay from Ilwaco....
Heh, did I mention it's two days to Ilwaco from Portland?
which is why I never figured out ...
My 'pinion don't vary.
Yup, Oregon does suck for sailing
Heh, at least in Hood River you get some better winds.
up, that's what I mean...this west coast is great for coastal cruising because we're already here!
Think 5kts.
Agree with Braden, we figure on a 5 knot average if we want to make tracks
We "plan" based on 5 knots too. That leaves us in a frame of mind to sail if the wind is light.
What is the least wind speed for you to keep up 5 knots, Larry?
Depends on a lot of things, but optimally we need about 3-4 knots true wind to sail 5 knots.
Further about the above post -- I really don't know the numbers
That's a very cool boat, Larry.
With the family we try not to sail more than about 5 hours between harbors
That's the honest approach!
The track you're on there is the text book "should we go overnight?" for a sailboat.
Hi Braden, that's good advice!
I call them splits
Thanks Dan. I think
Ah, that's the joy of no wind and a good engine... a civilized breakfast. I can smell it now.
Mornin' Braden! I'm not sure I'd ever
Depends totally on the wind...
Thanks for all the help!
