Yup, Oregon does suck for sailing

But, some of us live here. If I could keep the tax man happy, I'd leave my boat up in the Puget Sound area all year, but I can't.
OTOH, I greatly enjoy doing the Oregon Offshore Race (Astoria to Victoria) every year in early May. It's cold, wet, and rough, but it gets the boat up there in 36 hours with 6 guys helping! 
And, the trip back in the fall is all downhill.
