I also like leaving really early for a day passage sometimes leaving as early as 4 AM. Leaving that early you can get a few hours out of the way before your young crew wakes. Watching the sunrise is always a great experience and the 3 hours of navigation in the dark help make you a better captain.

Leaving early as Braden mentioned leaves a good portion of the day left to enjoy an anchorage.

If your motoring in calm water, there's nothing like the smell of coffee and bacon and eggs with the morning light while underway to make an early passage a great experience.
