Given the sustained conditions the fleet encountered on this passage, life aboard such a tub would likely have been extremely uncomfortable, no? The motion would have been very sharp, and I'd be willing to bet there was an absence of hand-holds below, bodies would have been hurled around that "expansive" deck salon like a pinball machine...
Furthermore, it has been reported that the skipper and Laura were "ejected" from the boat when she struck the reef... Looking at that miserable excuse for a cockpit suited for sailing offshore, that should not exactly come as any surprise...
