If some guy makes the wrong call and drives down the wrong way down some freeway and kills inercent individuals, everyone has no sympathy. We all drive.
But if some sailor does something really stupid, like Rule 62 did; we all make up stuff like; the crews tired, seasick, scared, injuried, something was broken, etc and so on.
None of those things consitute making such a stupid decision, similiar as to driving down the wrong side of the road.
Stupid is as stupid does. The guy was just plain old stupid. And wil suffer for it forever.
