control 90% of the market... because folks using computers need more than what APPLE is willing to control.
I would not be able to do my job if I had to depend on either MS or APPLE to make the CAD tools I use; neither MS nor APPL has PWB design software... which is created by a third parties. That software runs on PCs because they are "open."
Yes, I can now run on an APPL machine too... if I have it emulate a PC... which means I just gave up all that APPL control and interface. (and am running on the same, albeit more expensive, hardware)
As an example, imagine you bought a boat... and it sailed really nicely, but you could only sail it on "approved oceans" and you would have to buy replacement parts only from the one manufacture, at 2X the prices your friends pay for their similar parts. Well sure that works well for the company that built that boat, (highly profitable) but YOU are stuck in their "approved ocean." Or worse, what if you could only sail on "approved points of sail..." of course folks would say... "well that boat works really well." (sure, but don't try to get it to point... that's not "approved.")
So Apple has created a set of parameters in which their machines work really well, as long as you don't leave those parameters... reminds me of the Hunter salesman who asked... "sails on a reach well, doesn't she?"
