Jon even mentions that the engine had been recently replaced and may have been a source of CO poisoning. That makes even more sense.

Perhaps the islands don't show up on chartplotter at particular zooms... but they are very well known here and are the basis for much discussion before, during and after the race... They knew the islands existed. Especially since the skipper had won the race previously.
