The one should use astrologic charts. (My sign is Gemni, what's yours ;^)))) )
Seriously, fellows. Look at scale cart below. Adjust it for a 5" or larger screen. What would you see?
It's not missing a tower, or a pole, or a little rock -- Like you said, Larry: IT'S AND ISLAND . It's one of the few things out there that you can be sure you CAN'T hit.
If you chart ploter is set on 10 MILES (That's about an hour and half of velocity, you'd see what's below. If it's set at a smaller range, you'd obviously see the islands much larger.

As for the CO possiblity: The engine is a diesel, not a gas engine. The real CO danger for a diesel is so much lower than a gas engine. That really can't be likely the issue. Further the guy(s) that missed doing his (their) jobs at the helm. If someone perished below from CO (which is HIGHLY IMPROBABLE), it would have been a Mayday call situation. (Now I have 4 CO detetors on my boat -- one in each of three cabins and the main area. But that's because I have a diesel heater and generator.) If you had diesel engine CO -- you'd smell a lot of exhaust before you got CO poisoning.
