And typically a cruising boat isn't set up to do what a racing boat can do. While the Croozers can use engines, there is a severe time penalty, and the hours for engine use are very restricted. No crossing the finish line while running an engine.
The finish is usually quite interesting anyway... just about everyone gets down to Todos Santos bay just outside of Ensenada sometime during the night... and then the last of the breezes dies off as the sun starts to come up and a whisper of shore breeze slowly starts to rise with the sun. At that point you look around and see all these boats scattered all around with everyone pointed in different directions... just hoping for some sort of useable puff. The light sleds pop gossamer spinnakers and slowly edge toward the finish line. Then the heavier PHRF boats start to feel the puffs and put up or trim what ever they have. The cruisers get usable pressure last, and generally don't have light enough sails for anything but a good 6kt breeze... ultimately they come in somewhere between late morning and early afternoon.
Then the parties start.
