I use the split screen but I use half for Radar 
In Response To: There's no reason to go wide. ()
and half for the chart. I shift the scale around on both the Radar and Chart about every 15 minutes. I'm checking VMG, ETA to next and Speed on the chart and adjusting the gain, Sea Clutter and scale on the Radar. If nothing else it gives you something to do on a long watch but I really think it keeps everything tuned up.
