and I've since been told it will have 4-4D battery bank, so they'll be nothing holding back that second big case alternator. I think that's 880 amp hrs rated capacity? Plus it's 500 pounds that must be part of the ballast design. Peanuts in the financial scheme of a new 36 foot sailboat.

I don't get all the surprise though. Powered furlers and sheet winches will be added to accepted refrigeration, bow thrusters aren't unusual anymore on new boats, new boats have new power requirements, and these additions are all big amp/hr users.

We're never going to see, 2 GRP 27's, as the house bank on a new 36 footer,... ever again.
