It's ironic as sailboats become, lighter, faster and easier to sail, they need more electric power.
I would worry about the long over-hanging load on the shaft.
I had the same thought.
Wow, I've seen that happen but
The weight of the fitting along with its lever arm on the bearings really are extreme looking to me.
One wonders why they need a second alternator
With normal engine room heat, the real world output could be a lot lower.
This is a relatively small boat...
Probably has an ice maker for the G+Ts
That was my first thought.
New boats are going to need to be power plants for todays gizmos.
Same as old houses
I used to to do a fair bit of work for the Sabbathday Lake Shakers
D2-40, 38 hp, according the website.
The picture angle made it look like only 3 injectors..
No way...
More heavily equiped boats, from experience ;^)))
Our underway electronic/electrics
This boat could pin the Ampmeter. Did I mention a bow thruster,...
Bow thrusters and power winches
I'm with Larry
The alternators normally provided by Volvo
Volvo, I had one of them once. In all honesty
Neil is correct on those stock alternators
The Volvo...
Dunno. This is the owners second Fontaine daysailer.
Any idea how old the owner is...?
Jon, I knew this would bring you over.
I see the same thing as you do in home remodeling, Tom
The project site is a vast socio-economic mix, isn't it?
You mean the new M46? One of a new generation of yachts built for Little People?
Perhaps the Blue Jacket 40 is a better example...
Mebbe some of them "short subjects" you hear about in the movies?
3D CAD renderings look a little cheezy to me. They're way overdone today.
Don't need 'real" photos under sail...
That's it! With the success of the DS series, it appears Morris is putting some "cruising" back in.
It's not the shock loads but the cyclic loading.
Should have been under SG's post. Oops.
That uneven loading and vibration may be mitigated by the flywheel affect of that oversized "spacer" mount?
The vibration and cyclic loading are 2 different things.
As long as you're up (or reading this)
Bending Fatigue (are everyone's eyes glazing over yet?)
FATIGUE? In keeping with the season...
We had all electrics on our bvi trip
Fully agree... if I wanted everything "powered..."
Plus...
You do get a feel from the sounds
Geez, Gene, with that list of tools and a few laborers you could also build a pyramid!
Short on laborers...
Dang. It woulda been fun for the rest of us.
High Acceptance Rate Batteries???
