Work aboard and age....

On Guenevere we did almost everything our self. Even as we were working full time. But mostly after we moved aboard. From the start we were planning on long term cruising and being self reliant was the goal. Sooooo, after every project, all tools required to do the job remained on board. Having said that, we did draw the line

As others have said, we just change boxes for electronics.

BUT, now that we are getting older we sometimes chose which jobs we do. We did MANY bottom jobs, including our CopperPoxy, but recently had a yard do our Coppercoat bottom. Likewise, I know I can tear an engine down and do everything except the milling, but if needed, now days I will have it done.

I think anyone who is contemplating cruising needs to decide how remote they may be. If VERY remote is what is planned, you better be able to do it all! I remember doing an engine alignment at anchor, days from the nearest marina.

If sailing the coast, not so much.

Just my 2 cents (may be a nickel at today's cost) worth.
