If it looks nice, that's a very good start. Salt water damage is often very visible with pitted corrosion around metal parts in visible areas. If you don't see extraordinary corrosion or weathering, I wouldn't worry about it spending a year in that environment, particularly if it was 12 years ago.

I would say that his statement is not true. A survey tells all but the age of the boat is more a concern than it's one year in salt water.
