Exposure to salt water will have an effect on the stainless steel rigging. I have seen boats that have been in fresh water for many years and are moved to a salt water sailing area and in a very short time rust begins to form as the salt invades all the cracks and crevices in the stainless steel parts including the rigging wire and terminals including the chainplates and mast tangs and hardware. This rust expands and cracks get larger and more visible. Rigging is either replaced before wire and terminals start to break or fittings fail.
