With an electric windlass I always drop under power from the helm. It is easier for me to envision my final position from there. I rigged my windlass with a cordless control so I can be anywhere on deck when dropping (and raising of course). I have a Maxwell VWC1500 that I put in in NZ last year along with a lot of other changes. If you have all chain rode like me it is so easy to drop and raise that I do not hesitate to re-anchor if I don't like my position. It doesn't happen very often but it take the drudgery out as a deciding factor.
Don't forget, installing an electric windlass is no picnic. Be sure your chosen windlass will fit where you want it and that the deck is strong enough to handle the load. Then be sure that you can run the power cables to it. And that the rode has a clear path to it. When I installed my first electric windlass routing the power cables too longer than mounting the windlass.
A week ago we snagged a rock, somehow got the chain wrapped around it at 60 foot deep. The windlass could barely lift it. I doubt We could have raised it with a manual windlass. We were lucky to get it to the surface where I could get a line around it to release the tension on the chain and get it free. If I had to dive to free it the time to set up my scuba gear would have canceled the planned trip that day.
I would post pictures but haven't gotten around to setting up a picture hosting site.
